proliferating cell nuclear antigen
(PCNA) a 36-kD trimeric nuclear acidic protein that acts as an auxiliary factor in DNA replication and repair; its levels in the body correlate with the rates of DNA synthesis and it is commonly used as a marker for proliferating cells.
