articulatio sellaris
[TA] sellar or saddle joint: a type of synovial joint in which the articular surface of one bone is concave in one direction and convex in the direction at right angles to the first (concavoconvex), and the articular surface of the second bone is reciprocally convexoconcave; movement is possible along two main axes at right angles to each other. Called also ovoid joint.
