absorption atelectasis
acquired atelectasis atelectasis produced by any factor (such as secretions, foreign body, tumor, or abnormal external pressure) that completely obstructs the airway, prevents intake of air into the alveolar sacs, and permits absorption of air into the bloodstream. Called also obstructive a., resorption a., and secondary a.
