key-and-keyway attachment a precision attachment with a slotlike unit (female part) built entirely into the crown and an insert or flange (male part) extending from the prosthesis proper and fitting into the slot when the denture is attached to the crown; the flange may be retained by friction alone or by augmenting mechanical locks, screws, or adjustable latches. Called also friction a., internal a., parallel a., precision a., and slotted a.
