cAMP-de·pen·dent pro·tein ki·nase (de-penґdənt proґtēn kiґnās) [EC 2.7.11.11] any of a group of closely related protein-serine/threonine kinases that are activated by cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and catalyze the activity of a variety of intracellular proteins via phosphorylation of specific serine and threonine moieties of other proteins. Called also protein kinase A and cyclic AMP–dependent protein kinase.
