Capnocytophaga canimorsus

Capnocytophaga canimorsus
a species that is part of the normal oral flora of dogs and cats; when a human is bitten by an infected animal, an infection may follow that can be fatal, characterized by cellulitis, bacteremia, purulent meningitis, endocarditis, peripheral gangrene, malar purpura, and Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome. Infection is more severe in persons with asplenia, alcoholism, or a hematologic malignancy.
