carbonate dehydratase

carbonate dehydratase
car·bon·ate de·hy·dra·tase (kahrґbə-nāt de-hiґdrə-tās) [EC 4.2.1.1] an enzyme of the lyase class that catalyzes the equilibration of dissolved carbon dioxide and carbonic acid, speeding the movement of carbon dioxide from tissues to blood to alveolar air. It is a zinc protein found in renal tubule cells and red blood cells. Called also carbonic anhydrase.
