car·te·o·lol hy·dro·chlo·ride (kahrґte-ə-lol) [USP] a beta-adrenergic blocking agent with intrinsic sympathetic activity, administered orally as an antihypertensive and applied topically to the conjunctiva in the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
