hepatic stellate cell
(HSC) a type of stellate cell found in the perisinusoidal spaces of the liver. These cells are the major site of vitamin A storage in the body and also synthesize collagen. They may be involved in hepatic tissue repair and be responsible for the excess collagen produced in cirrhosis. Called also fat-storing c. of liver, Ito c., and lipocyte.
