venoocclusive disease of the liver
symptomatic occlusion of the small hepatic venules, caused by ingestion of any of a variety of substances such as Senecio tea and certain chemotherapy agents (hepatotoxins) and by radiation. Many patients recover after withdrawal of the offending toxin; some progress to portal hypertension and liver failure, as in Budd-Chiari syndrome. Called also hepatic venoocclusive d.
