dura mater cranialis [TA] cranial dura mater: the dura mater covering the brain, composed of two mostly fused layers: an endosteal outer layer (endocranium) adherent to the inner aspect of the cranial bones, analogous to the periosteum of the bony skeleton, and an inner meningeal layer. Venous sinuses and the trigeminal ganglion are located between the layers. Called also d. m. encephali [TA alternative].
