granular ependymitis

irritation of the ependyma on the floor of the fourth ventricle as a result of viral or bacterial infections such as neurosyphilis; granules appear, made up of neurological material and sometimes covered with ependyma. Obstruction of outflow of cerebrospinal fluid may cause hydrocephalus.
