acquired epidermolysis bullosa

acquired epidermolysis bullosa
epidermolysis bullosa that is not hereditary, usually seen in adulthood. It appears to be an autoimmune condition, with autoantibodies on the dermal side of the dermal-epidermal junction against type VII collagen, a major component of fibrils at the junction. The bullae and vesicles are often almost identical to those found in bullous pemphigoid, occurring most often on pressure areas of the hands and feet, although they may be anywhere on the body; they heal leaving atrophic scars and milia. Called also e. bullosa acquisita and dermolytic pemphigoid.
