exosome

exosome
exo·some (ekґso-sōm) 1. a large complex of exonucleases, present in both the nucleoplasm and the cytoplasm, that degrade RNA in a 3′ to 5′ direction, involved in a number of RNA processing and degradation pathways. 2. a small (10–30 nm) cytoplasmic vesicle, generated in many cell types by inward budding of the membrane of multivesicular bodies and containing a mixture of proteins and lipids; the vesicles are released into the extracellular environment and are involved in membrane remodeling and cell signaling.
