louse-borne relapsing fever
a type of relapsing fever caused by infection with Borrelia recurrentis, spread from person to person with a vector of the human body louse, Pediculus humanus humanus, which has humans as its reservoir. The condition occurs in epidemics when people are living in crowded or unsanitary conditions and can be spread either through louse bites or through contamination of a break in the skin by bodily secretions of lice.
