ganglion pterygopalatinum

ganglion pterygopalatinum
[TA] pterygopalatine ganglion: a parasympathetic ganglion in the pterygopalatine fossa; its preganglionic fibers are derived from the facial nerve via the greater petrosal nerve and the nerve of the pterygopalatine canal. Its postganglionic fibers supply the lacrimal, nasal, and palatine glands; sensory and sympathetic fibers pass through the ganglion. Called also Meckel, sphenomaxillary, or sphenopalatine g.
