a viral disease of swine caused by the porcine transmissible gastroenteritis virus, occurring chiefly during the winter and characterized by severe diarrhea and acute inflammation of the gastric mucosa, which may lead to ulceration and hemorrhage. The mortality rate among piglets is very high.
