glutamate dehydrogenase [NAD(P)+]
glu·ta·mate de·hy·dro·gen·ase [NAD(P)+] (glooґtə-māt de-hiґdro-jən-ās) [EC 1.4.1.3] an enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of glutamate to form α-ketoglutarate, using either NAD+ or NADP+ as an electron acceptor. The reversible reaction has a major function in both synthesis and degradation of glutamic acid and, via transaminases, other amino acids as well.
