metachromatic granule
1. a granular cell inclusion that stains a color different from that of the dye used. 2. in certain bacteria, yeasts, yeastlike fungi, and protozoa, granules that appear red when stained with a blue dye, composed of complex polyphosphate, lipid, and volutin; they serve as an intracellular phosphate reserve.
