progressive disseminated histoplasmosis
a condition, seen primarily in infants and in immunocompromised adults, caused by dissemination of Histoplasma capsulatum from the lungs to other areas of the body; in the oral, pharyngeal, and gastrointestinal tracts it may cause ulceration, bleeding, or obstruction and in the central nervous system it may present as focal cerebritis or diffuse meningitis.
