persistently elevated blood levels of very-low-density lipoproteins and chylomicrons after ingestion of fat or carbohydrates; it is characteristic of disorders with a type V hyperlipoproteinemia phenotype and is sometimes used as a synonym for this phenotype or for genetic disorders causing it.
