hypoglycemia occurring in the fasting state, i.e., after the glucose contents of the intestine have been absorbed; it occurs in such conditions as insulinoma, glycogen storage disease, severe hepatic failure, starvation, malabsorption, hypopituitarism, and adrenocortical insufficiency.
