Jacob's ladder
(jaґkəb) [from the ladder extending to heaven seen in a dream by the biblical patriarch Jacob] 1. an herb of the genus Polemonium, especially P. caeruleum, a blue-flowered Eurasian species that has astringent, diaphoretic, and hemolytic effects. Called also Greek valerian. 2. preparations of P. caeruleus herb, used topically for ulcers and internally as an infusion for fever and inflammation.
