Leeu·wen·hoe·kia (la″wen-hooґke-ə) [Anton (Anthony, Antony) van Leeuwenhoek, Dutch microscopist, 1632–1723] a genus of mites. L. australienґsis is a species found in Australia that causes great irritation by burrowing in the skin.
