lichen myxedematosus

lichen myxedematosus
a condition resembling myxedema but not associated with thyroid dysfunction, characterized by a fibrocystic proliferation, increased deposition of acid mucopolysaccharides in the skin, and a circulating paraprotein, usually an immunoglobulin G. Manifestations vary: there may be localized or generalized distributions of lichenoid papules and presence or absence of scleroderma; one type has plaques and nodules resembling those of urticaria. The most serious, generalized form with scleroderma is called scleromyxedema. Called also papular mucinosis.
