mesenterium dorsale commune dorsal common mesentery: the primordial embryonic mesentery, a double-layered median partition formed by association of the splanchnic mesoderm with the endoderm, extending from the roof of the coelom toward the midventral wall, and dividing the coelom into halves; it contains the primordial gut, and encloses the heart, lungs, and liver as they develop.
