gaze paretic nystagmus
a type of gaze nystagmus seen in patients recovering from central nervous system lesions: If the eyes fail to stay fixed to one side only, that is the affected side of a cerebral or pontine lesion; if the defect is in vertical gaze, it usually signifies a lesion in the pretectal area.
