Fatty acid thiokinase (medium chain), a ligase forming acyl-CoA's from medium-chain fatty acid s and CoA with the conversion of ATP to AMP and pyrophosphate. A key step in activation of fatty acid s. SYN: acyl-activating enzyme (2), butyryl-CoA synthetase, octanoyl-CoA synthetase.
