panchakarma
pan·cha·kar·ma (pahn″chə-kahrґmə) [Sanskrit “five actions”] a fivefold purification treatment used in ayurveda, consisting of administration of a purgative to eliminate kapha, a laxative of oil or decocted medicines to eliminate pitta, an enema to eliminate vata, inhalation treatment to clear doshas from the head, and bloodletting to purify the blood. There are slight variations on the process, and some of the actions may be omitted in a given case.
