calcitonin gene–related peptide
a 37–amino acid polypeptide encoded by the calcitonin gene, widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous systems and also occurring in the adrenal medulla and gastrointestinal tract; it is a potent vasodilator and a neurotransmitter.
