Prevotella melaninogenica

Prevotella melaninogenica
a coccoid species that produces a black hematin pigment, part of the normal flora of the mucous membranes. It is also an important pathogen in oral, lung, and brain abscesses and occurs in other mixed infections. Formerly called Bacteroides melaninogenicus and B. melaninogenicus subsp. melaninogenicus.
