AAA proteins

AAA proteins
[ATPases associated with various cellular activities ] a large family of ATPases that share a highly conserved module of about 230 amino acid residues and serve as molecular chaperones, coupling energy released by ATP hydrolysis to mechanical force. AAA proteins are involved in a variety of intracellular processes, including protein degradation, vesicular transport, microtubule rearrangement, peroxisome assembly, mitochondrial function, signal transduction, cell-cycle control, mitotic spindle formation, and transcription. The family can be extended by the addition of related chaperone proteins to form the superfamily AAA+ proteins.
