supportive psychotherapy
psychotherapy aimed at reinforcing a patient's defenses, relieving immediate crises or acute disequilibria, reducing symptoms to a premorbid level, and promoting the healthy aspects of the patient, without probing emotional conflicts or trying to alter the basic personality.
