rif·ax·i·min (rif-akґsĭ-min) a semisynthetic antibacterial compound, derived from rifamycin, that inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis, used for the treatment of traveler's diarrhea caused by noninvasive strains of Escherichia coli; administered orally.
