flagellar rootlet

flagellar rootlet
one of the delicate striated fibrils of the flagellar root system that arise from the basal body and run deep into the cytoplasm, perhaps serving as anchoring organelles or having a skeletal function. They occur most commonly in phytoflagellate protozoa, and were formerly thought to connect the basal body to the nucleus of the cell. Called also rhizoblast and rhizoplast.
