Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhi

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhi
a group D serovar that is a strict parasite of humans, is transmitted by water or food contaminated by human feces, and causes typhoid fever. Strains containing the Vi antigen are designated V strains; those that have partially lost Vi antigen, V-W strains; and those that do not contain Vi antigen, W strains. The species is sometimes subdivided into phage types on the basis of susceptibility to empirically numbered bacteriophages. Formerly called S. typhi.
