necrotizing scleritis

necrotizing scleritis
a severe form of anterior scleritis characterized by progressive necrosis, with thinning of the sclera, through which the underlying uvea can be seen to varying degrees, by painful avascular patches, and potentially resulting in perforation of the globe; usually associated with a serious systemic disease and involvement of multiple organs.

Necrotizing scleritis in rheumatoid arthritis. Active scleral inflammation surrounds an area of tissue loss, with uveal tissue visible in the areas of scleral loss.
