skel·e·to·ni·za·tion (skel″ə-tə-nĭ-zaґshən) 1. the process of reducing to a skeletal form or of eliminating excess elements. 2. the application of an algorithm to a digital image in order to eliminate data obscuring the structure of interest. 3. abnormal prominence of the orbital rim due to thinning or drooping of the underlying soft tissues. 4. in rhinoplasty, the elevation of the soft tissues from the underlying framework of the nose.
