reactive oxygen species

reactive oxygen species
biologically active, partially reduced derivatives of molecular oxygen (O2), including the superoxide radical, hydrogen peroxide, and the hydroxyl radical. They are produced by normal metabolic processes and may also be produced by the absorption of energy, such as ultraviolet or ionizing radiation, and can damage biological systems.
