Active against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms including hemolytic streptococci, staphylococci, typhoid bacilli, and brucellae, as well as against certain viruses. Also available as c. hydrochloride.

an antibiotic active against many bacteria and fungi. It is administered as an ointment for skin and eye infections and, in combination with other tetracycline (as Deteclo), by mouth for systemic infections; side-effects are those of the tetracyclines. Trade name: Aureomycin.
