postconcussion syndrome
postconcussional syndrome physical and personality changes that sometimes occur after concussion of the brain (q.v.); they include amnesia, headache, dizziness, tinnitus, irritability, fatigability, sweating, palpitations of the heart, disordered sleep, and difficulty in concentrating. Called also traumatic encephalopathy and concussion, posttraumatic, or posttraumatic brain s. Cf. boxer's dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
