Clostridium welchii

Clostridium welchii
Bacteria that is the most common agent of gas gangrene. Also causes food poisoning and a fulminant form of bowel disease called necrotizing colitis. C. welchii is named after its discoverer, the American pathologist William Welch (who founded the first path lab in the U.S.). Also called C. perfrigens.
