sandwich technique
1. detection of a specific molecule, as a protein or nucleic acid, by sandwiching it between two layers of a different molecule or material, the second of which is radiolabeled or otherwise tagged for detection. The term is sometimes used specifically to denote detection of an antigen using two layers of antibody. 2. any technique that places something of interest between two layers of something else more easily detected or performed, or otherwise useful.
