sex chromatin test
(for determination of chromosomal sex) examination of somatic cells for presence of a Barr body at the periphery of the nucleus; an index of the presence of two X chromosomes, as in a normal XX female, but also giving a positive result with certain chromosomal anomalies. Called also buccal smear t.
