spasmodic torticollis
symptomatic torticollis a type of focal dystonia with spasms of neck muscles, particularly the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles. The cause is unknown, although irritation of the accessory nerve has been implicated in some cases. Cf. retrocollis and rotatory spasm. Called also intermittent or neurogenic t. and cervical or idiopathic cervical dystonia.
