diphtheria toxin

diphtheria toxin
a protein exotoxin produced by virulent (lysogenic) strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae that is primarily responsible for the pathogenesis of diphtheritic infection. It is an enzyme that inhibits protein synthesis by inactivating a factor (EF-2) required for 2. the transfer of polypeptidyl-tRNA from acceptor to donor sites on ribosomes.
