- [TA] anterior spinothalamic tract: a group of nerve fibers in the anterior funiculus of the spinal cord, continuous with the spinothalamic tract. They arise in the contralateral gray substance and ascend to the thalamus; in the rostral pons and midbrain they are located adjacent to the medial lemniscus. The fibers are part of the anterolateral system and carry sensory impulses activated by light touch. Called also ventral spinothalamic tract.
