reverse triiodothyronine
(rT3) 3,3′,5′-triiodothyronine, a thyroxine derivative that has little if any biologic activity; it is produced in increased amounts in hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and the euthyroid sick syndrome, as well as during febrile illness or carbohydrate deprivation.
