rabies vaccine
any of several inactivated viral vaccines against rabies; used for preexposure immunization to persons at high risk of exposure, such as veterinarians, and for postexposure prophylaxis in conjunction with rabies immune globulin. The currently available preparations are human diploid cell vaccine and purified chick embryo cell vaccine. In official terminology, the term is used specifically to denote the human diploid cell vaccine.
