cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis

cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis
vasculitis affecting the small vessels of the skin, with infiltration by polymorphonuclear leukocytes, red blood cell extravasation, and dermal necrosis, manifesting first as a rash on the lower extremity or buttocks, usually accompanied by a tingling or burning sensation; a wide variety of skin lesions may develop later. It usually resolves in 1 to 4 weeks, often with residual hyperpigmentation, though some individuals may develop recurrent disease. Because there is frequently a known or presumed precipitating antigen, it is often called hypersensitivity vasculitis. Called also cutaneous leukocytoclastic angiitis.
